Spirovents & Expansion tanks?

Someone told me that Spirovents & expansion tanks are a bad mix. Apparently they remove air from the system too well and flood the tanks. Anyone ever heard or run into this?

Hopefully....
The air is in the bottom of a diaphram tank and shouldn't affect a "normal", pumping away scenerio. If you've got a compression tank, the 2 don't mix as well as they should.
Ed Sullivan , from Buderus explained this about the best I've ever heard. The diagrams in the training book were concise and easy to understand, made perfect sense. Chris0 -
plain steel tanks...
as opposed to newer, bladder type expansion tanks?
With a plain tank you want to collect all the air and dump it into the tank (though it will always want to redisolve into the water at the relatively cool air/water interface in the tank), w/ a bladder tank you want to get it out of the system completely.
A B&G Airtrol tank fitting will help do this, it lets the air into the tank but limits thermal circulation of the tank water to/from the rest of the system.
It begs another question though: is there any reason not to use a bladder tank these days, even on old gravity systems that once had plain steel ceiling tanks, or even open attic tanks?

expansion tanks
my company uses the two together for radiant heat jobs and we have no trouble at all. when we use them for base board we use the taco vents with air purgers and tank under neith that and water make up before the tank0
