Copper Pipe in old 2-Pipe System?

I have a 1929 2-pipe steam system with a new boiler. All works fine. While renovating my bathroom, my contractor damaged a piece of old pipe (I assume cast iron) and replaced a segment with copper. Will the mixture of the two types of pipe damage the system?

It is a steam pipe. Not a return.

Replace it

with black steel. Those soldered joints will leak in a few years, as they can't "give" when the pipe expands and contracts.
