Took 50 years to break a bone
John R. Hall
Member Posts: 2,245
It took 50 years but I finally did it -- I broke a bone. Messed up my cute nose two hours before the Super Bowl. I hit a wooden sign post while tubing down a slick snowy hill. I knew it was there and turned to face it -- a little too late. Damn! Wham! Took some stitches to close the cut and now I have to go back next week and have it reset -- otherwise I'd look like Marcel Pronovost the rest of my life.
Oh well, it could have been worse...

Things occur....
Hope you've got a compassionate doctor who's experienced the pain before. I have felt the "let's try this again, 1 more time" pain, and It ain't fun!
Hope all works out well.Be prepared, and best of luck. Chris0 -
You're alright
That is a good thing..sledding accidents are many times very serious. Just last week two girls were sent to the intensive care unit from a very bad collision and head injuries.
My kid was snowboarding a few years back. "Look, no hands" then he fell backwards and broke his wrist. That would not be good a writer such as your self.
I'm blessed No broken Bones

Slope shy
I'll stay away from the hills for a while. Our daughter broke her collarbone a few years ago when she was hit by our son on his tube. Good thing I never learned to ski.
I think we'll stick to indoor games for a while.0 -
50 YR Old Children
When we hit 50 and try to keep up with the kids or in some cases the grand kids we forget how old we really are. That's ok though, I want to gain wisdom with age but I never want to grow up. Heal quick John and get back out there being a big kid.

Coulda been LOTS worse...
I had a friend that lost a little brother in a tubing accident doing the same thing. Broken pelvis and severe brain contusion. Lived for one hour after hitting the tree.
Count your blessings and stay off the tubes.

Lawsuit? Naaah
For a fleeting moment I thought about the possibility of a lawsuit. After all, there are no signs posted about sledding at your own risk and the sign is dead center in the middle of the bottom of the hill. But I should know better and I'm sure no kids could even make it as far as my heavy chubby body and its momentum. Besides, the result would probably close the hill down and ruin the fun for a lot of families. In this litigious society, this will be one person who chooses to take his lumps and live with them.0 -
good on ya man
To bad more people don't take that attitude.

Thanks, John.
Another fine, upstanding citizen. One of the things that is hurting our country is the idea that we do things because we can, not because its right. Welcome to the road less traveled!0 -
