I have a customer with two aquatats (one for day and one for night), attached to the return line below the water line, that are bieng used as the operating control for a gas fired steam boiler. i have never seen this application for controling a steam boiler.....have you and what do you recomend for this situation. i feel that the system should be controled by a thermostat in the building. but the owner is not receptive to this opinion. please advise me if you have previously experienced any control system such as this. thanks in advance for your help steff...

Steffen,
I suppose whichever aquastat is in charge opens the call for heat circuit when the return water is warm enough, but of course this arrangement can't address room comfort. I believe you are correct in wanting to add a room thermostat

Maybe an outdoor reset setup
as made by Heat-Timer, Tekmar etc would be the way to go here. It would adjust the boiler's run-time according to outside temperature.
