i have a trane direct return trap on what has to be a vapor system i suppose. what do you do when the return trap #210 finally goes bad? i believe that the trap keeps the condensate from backing up to the steam line, can you put a f&t or something there? im a wholesaler in an old part of Memphis and i dont see very many of these...any help would be appreciated...

Are you sure
the Direct Return Trap itself is bad, and it's not a matter of stuck check-valves in the piping under the trap?
The reason the DRT is there in the first place is so it can return the condensate to the boiler if the pressure gets too high for it to return by gravity. It was very difficult to accurately regulate pressure on an old coal-fired boiler.
Nowadays, you have two alternatives: 1- have someone like Tunstall rebuild the DRT, if it really is bad, or 2- use a Vaporstat instead of a Pressuretrol to keep the pressure under 8 ounces or so.
But even with a Vaporstat, it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a working DRT as a backup.

i talked to the contractor and he said he took it apart because it was stuck..wouldnt operate. do you have a number for turnstall?...his other question is can he run the boiler for the weekend if he caps off that line?...0 -
It should be OK
if the pressure is kept low.
I don't have Tunstall's number, but it should be on their site.
