are there any alarm systems available to alert home owner of a leaky hot water heater.

Do you want one to tie into an existing alarm system that would alert a central station or do you want a stan-alone unit? The problem with the stand-alone unit is that it's only good if there is someone there to hear it!0 -

Don't bother sounding an alarm
Don't bother sounding an alarm, shut the water off to the tank and stop it from flooding your house! If it happens to be a gas fired water heater shut the gas off too.
