Washing Machine P Trap Distance Question

Hello everyone:
I had a licensed plumber install a new drain for a moving of the washing machine, just started the washer up tonite, and when it tries to drain the water comes rusing back up out of the top of the 2" drain pipe. As I think about it, the p trap seemed pretty close to the bottom of the Oatey box, I can't remeber the distance and now it is plastered over. My question is, is there a minimum distance that the p trap should be from the top of the drain? Am I barking up the wrong tree? It is vented directly out through the roof, and I can't think of any other reason this would happen. Thanks in advance for your help!

18" min. to 48" max. What's been happening is that, new machines utilize high velocity pumps. You might wanna use the insert that came with the appliance, it kinda makes it direct instead of indirect. There are manufacturers that make a fernco style cap/bushing thing w/ small holes in it. The longer the standpipe the better, and watch!! the soap. 2" vents are preferred. The code allows 1&1/2.. but stay 2" whenever possible. If it's located on an upper floor, you may want to use a remote sensor that turns off the machine & the water if in it gets wet... Or put a pan under it.. BOC0 -
As a rule , we rough them
(The 2" - not 1 1/2" ) trap right on the floor, and bring the standpipe up as high as the discharge hose will allow. A clotheswasher puts out copious amounts on H20 and fast too! Mad Dog

In mass it's 18" to 30" as well. 1 1/2 min, but 2" is preffered w/ high velocity pumps. Mad dog if you rough your trap to the floor you'd have one reeeeaalllyyy long stand pipe, don't you think that would siphon the trap seal?0 -
here
it is 30" minimum from the weir of the trap. the pipe and trap has to be 2" minimum.
funny how the codes change from location to location0
