brass instead of black pipe??

...copper pipe with soldered joints, or brass pipe with a wall heavy enough that it's threaded, to be used with screwed fittings? I don't even know how readily available brass pipe & fittings are anymore. Even if they are available, I can't imagine that they'll be stocked, and I'll bet they cost a fortune as compared to steel pipe and malleable iron fittings.

I would not use copper pipe and soldered fittings for steam.

No, I was in HD and

needed to buy a reducer fitting from 1/4 to 1/8, they stocked 1/4 black pipe and elbows but thats about it. I just happened to have needed a 1/2 brass nipple and saw the 1/4 to 1/8 reducer in that section.

Also saw quite a few 1/8 brass fittings in that aisle. So I just wondered if its Ok to use brass. Im sure one brass elbow is no big deal, I was thinking more along the lines if somone were to use alot of brass on steam if that would be a problem?

Im sure it would be more expensive...

    brassy steam

I use brass exclusively on the piping to the gauge and pressuretrol/vaporstat. If stays cleaner longer and doesn't plug up as quickly as black iron. Other than that, it's steel all the way. simply because of cost and availability.

    That's what we supply...

with all of our steam boilers, for the gage, glass, and pressure control (brass with built-in "pigtail").
