Hot surface ignitor wishes
Just back from yet another late night no-heat call. The thermocouple of the new century - the silica-carbide ignitor. Once again, the miriad of Norton ignitors I keep on my truck never seem to match & a fancy bit of wrist twisting was needed to make one work for the night.
Thanks York for placing it BEHIND the fresh air intake line and THANKS to the installer who placed the water heater up against said line so it couldn't be removed to access the ignitor base. Now I know how Helen Keller felt!
Wouldn't it be sweet if someone made a retro-fit Norton kit so's we could stock just one???
Had one two weeks ago with a ceramic base that was at least 6" long. Yowza, what kind of a sick and twisted engineer came up with that nutty idea? Felt like I was pulling a rabbit out of a hat(G).

That
Would just be to simple. Got to carry 10 differant HSI just to make some bean counter happy. I dream of a world where one HSI,Flame sensor,IFC/blower,defrost board, fits all. Now with CSST gas pipe each manufacturer has there own proprietory fitting, can you imagine if that carried over to Black iron or PVC pipe. You would need a service vechile the size of a moving van. Thank God for the rescue motor.0 -
Ahhh the universal HSI
David, I feel your pain.
I have started to refuse work on furnastry's as they all require individiual parts.
A universal HSI... aahhhh life would be good. We stock # one thru nine and Chris just needed a # twelve the other day. Arrrrggggghhh.

Maytag
The maytag gas dryer is a good volume price and with CERAMIC wire nuts fits alot of places on furnaces and boilers.0 -
the scene of the crime
Just returned from the scene of the crime. Boy, when you have the corect part, the work is a dream. Took all darn day to find the time to return!
Put the intake back together with a fernco so that the next bloke doesn't have to get a knot on his head when the pipe breaks (a 2" 90 broke last night as I was trying to remove the vent & I got knocked on the knoggin - the whole fam damily was standing there watching me work - D'OH!). Man, I hate it when you can't verbally release those pent up feelings(G).
