    The cut-in is on the face. Set the cut in to .5 using the screw on top and in the inside under the cover there is a wheel . The wheel is the differential , cut -in + Diff. = cut-out . in a normal home or small building you would set the diff to 1# , yes this will give u 1.5# lowest setting on a P404

    404

    If its a heating boiler the PA404 "A" model is the one. To set the differential remove the cover and turn the wheel to align with the mark. As the others said set the outside cut in to as low as it will go.

    My PA404 doesnt use a wheel--cut in and differential are each adjusted via screws on top. Also, the scale plate for each can be moved up an down about 1/4 inch--how do I figure out what right settings are? PS. My PA404 is about 50 yrs old...

    Ain't that the truth. Recommend a better control?

    I made 3.5-4.75psi with my old PA404.
    I make 3-4psi with my new PA404.

    Both were set to 0.5+1.

    What do I do? L404? Vaporstat?

    (vs. PA404A) also honeywell, w/ two top adj screws, diff (subtractive) and main (cutout) scale on the front and a mercury switch?

    using a manometer

    attached to the boiler drain in accordance with Noel's instructions, I found that in order to have the vaporstat cut out at 8 ounces of pressure, the dial setting had to be lowered to about 5.5 ounces of pressure. There is no doubt that lower is better. Cut in dial seems to be okay.

    Nope. It reads PA404A1X05 on the casing. It does have mercury float. Scale is from 0-5 psi on cut in and 0-6 psi on differential...
