Should I use a heat exchanger to pipe a wood boiler in to the gas boiler?

    Read your instructions

and the manufacturer will usually give a recommendation. But, wood boilers are sometimes open systems and your gas system is probably closed and under pressure so you will have to use a HX. Most of the larger wood boiler manufacturers will size, give recommended piping arrangements and sell a proper HX for there system.
