pipe insulation

Go look at the post that I started called Historic 2pipe veco system in Phila.
Near the end of the posts, I posted some photos of my insulating job. See if there's an SPI near you, they were great and had all the specialized pipe insulation in their warehouse. My post says this already, but you can get most of the benefit by just insulating the runs (costs about $1 per foot). If you want, you can do the fittings too (I did, I think it looks slick). Most fitting covers with fiberglass 'diapers' were around $2 each. I went with 1" thick insulation. It's nice stuff to work with. Snaps onto the pipe and then tapes shut. Very satisfying result.
Email direct if you want, with questions.

Im no hvac pro just a bldg owner but I wrapped regular faced fiberglass, and the encapsulated fiberglass over my Asbestos, 3 to 6 " depending on area. There is better looking stuff but alot more expensive.

    Fibreglass

There is Fibreglass insulation specifically designed for steam pipes. It has a paper reinforced backing and comes in three foot sections. Check your local plumbing and heating supply store if they have it.
