I'm firing a .75 70deg nozzle in my hot air unit (Beckett Gun AFG) My question is--if i go to a .65 70deg will i save any fuel and will it be worth the change? Thanks...The .75 is solid and the .65 is hollow........ Thanks...

    More questions are needed.

These nozzle ratings are based on having 100# pressure. What is your pressure through your fuel pump?

Also depending on the type of unit, the atomspheric condtions (stack height, etc.), you may or may not want to downsize the nozzle.

You won't know unless you have the proper equipment to see what kind of efficiency you are getting out of the unit.
In otherwords, you could have a .95 gpm nozzle in this unit and get higher efficiency than a un-tuned unit at .65 gpm.
If you don't know how to tune it up, then don't mess with it.

    thanks, Steve

    Nozzle

Yes i have 100# pressure from the pump.. Also does a solid nozzle cause more of a pulse effect while running VS a hollow nozzle...
    Thanks for your help............

    try posting at...

w/ the furnace make and model number in addition to the burner info. They may be able to help you out on optimum spray angle, pattern, nozzle brand, and setup for smoothest operation, as well as other tweaks that might tame the pulsing.

It is quite possible that switching to 0.65 from 0.75 might get you 15% longer burn times, w/ little or no change in combustion efficiency, but you would know when you tuned it w/ the combustion instruments, so you could do side by side comparisons at equal CO2/excess air & draft to see what the difference in stack temp and combustion efficiency was and whether you still had sufficient stack temperature. You might, if mfg's specs are unavailable, compare hollow vs semisolid vs solid nozzles of the same size too, but it gets time and labor consuming
