Let's get ready to rumble! (PAH)

We've been politicking all day & putting heat on the members of the Council who are are customers (well, maybe not - after we get done harrasing them!). That committee is going to be put on a faster track - so we're told.

Muso has been getting in hotter water as the day progressed(G).

Torch fee sets plumbers on fire!

Tonight we have our opportunity to be heard at the York City Council meeting! This will be an interesting exercise of our first amnendment rights(G). Nothing ventured, nothing gained & I (personally) don't think my 2,400 word speech will make a difference cause it's politicians I'll be talking to. But the press will be there & they're listening.

    Fees

I've learned that one of the main functions of big city aldermen or councilpersons' is to sit around and think of ways to separate us from our money.

Cases in point: (from the windy city)
Pay sales tax difference if materials are purchased outside and installed in city limits.(Diff. is 1%) Submit paperwork or "just pay the fee".
Towed a bunch of cars from parking garages for lack of city sticker. Pay tow, pay ticket...they make a cool quarter mil in a night. How many of those cars were legit out of towners? It's easier to pay than to fight.

    Taxes

The rally is on, TAX BUSINESS NOT US. And so the politicos spread the word. We will tax business so that you, the consumer will consent to this action and all will be well. . . . . . .

And thus another tax is passed on from the business to the end consumer, those who didn't want to pay more taxes and agreed that businesses should be taxed so they wouldn't have to pay.

Business taxes are a cost of doing business which is passed on to the consumer just like any other cost. When will they ever learn.

    V is for Victory!

The atmosphere and tension was thick enough to cut it with a knife. A group of angry Master Plumbers awaited a nod from the City Council President to begin their assault upon unwarranted 200 to 300% increases in existing fees as well as several additional "new" fees - all of which were being heaped upon one ,and only one, professional licensed trade group of businessmen and women - plumbing firms and those who work within those forms as licensed plumbers.

When my turn came, Lois handed out copies of my speech and attached documents to all the elected officials. The press had already received their copy (just minutes before). The Coucil President took one look at the speech content and asked if I intended to read all of it. A five minute limit is supposed to be imposed on presenters and he could tell this was going to take much longer! But, the next time he's without heat in the middle of the night, he still needs service and it was I who restored his heating at 2:30 AM just a short while back.

They did not cut me off & I finished my 14 minutes of content without a single interruption.

We even had a plumbing inspector from a neighboring township who arrived and spoke out in our defense. A risky thing for him to do & it could cost him his job. He stands a lot taller in my eyes today.

The long & short of it? Not only will these new plumbing fees be placed on hold and sent back for review (they'll probably double the doubled fees!), but all of the newly enacted fees are being stopped in their tracks as Council decides their fate!

So, it's a sort of win for now.

    Taxes (venting)

    Under lying fact!
Every state, town, city, and or village business manager, selectman, mayor or governor et. al thinks they are protecting you by having a redundant system in place.
Every faction, board of education, park department, highway department etc. has it's own maintenance equipment and crew (union of course).
Each, basically has the same function, maintain public property for you the taxpayer.....protecting your investment.
These departments need managers, offices, equipment, garages, employees, pensions and health insurance each operating independent of each other.
My question, WHY? Is public property maintenance so complex that it needs a specialist to administer it? Isn't a building a building, a grass area a grass area or a parking area paved and a road paved.

What's wrong with one maintenance department for all public property and get bids from locals, who pay taxes on their business property, to do the major construction, paving and tree work.

Do you know how many retired public employees this redundant system creates @ approx 70% of their salary plus benefit packages which is added to your assessment?

    My mother-in-law

had water coming in her basement today & some frozen spouting that was overflowing. Yes, the two were related(G).

Anyway, while I'm there she asks me to check out her cable box and the remote that's not working. She had the batteries in backwards, which reversed the polarity. One of em leaked, so I cleaned out the crud and installed two new batteries.

While I'm testing out the little beastie, I happen to hit upon channel 16 & there's Councilman Muso ramrodding through a resolution to keep all fees in tact except for the candle permit fees. Da bum.

So - looks like we're back to square one. Gotta give em credit though - we swallowed their lies hook line & sinker about putting all of the fees on hold until a committee can review them. And that hooie about having a few of us serve on the committee??? Hell, even I believed that one was true.

My grandfather, God rest his soul, was right - there is no such thing as an honest politician. ME's right - there mouths were moving!

    Council meetings on record

Does your council hold their meeting on camera? maybe you have a legal recourse for a verbal promise being broken.

I like the Idea of not servicing any coucil members after hours..everyone would have to agree tho..

    Good luck out there
