Combination of Problems

I have an American Standard (lease that's what the manual says)gas steam boiler. I've been in the house for years but, have never had any problems before. I am no expert on this and basically all I've had to do is drain and keep the water at the line on the glass tube... beyond that I'm helpless.
I have the half heated half cold radiators. I believe my system is a one pipe as you call it. It looks exactly like the picture on your book "We Got Steam it!" which I'm sure I need to order to understand mine !!
I have a two story with full basement. My basement is warmer than it has ever been and while that is a good thing, I'm sure it's a bad thing!?
I'm also having a leaky chimney problem which, although it is January, I have no snow or rain and I have a leak. Could this be anyway related to a problem with my boiler ? The leak seems to be in the middle of the chimney that's located in the attic. We've retared the flashing and its still leaking and I don't know where the water is coming from. Can the boiler push that much moisture up the chimney ? Or are these definitely two different issues ?

When does the
chiminey leak? I had a leaky chiminey and tar may not solve your problem. You will probably need to replace the flashing. I has someone do this and that stopped my chiminey leak.0 -
oil or gas
In this weather, in wisc. at least you can condense alot of water out of a gas boiler in the chimney. If you have an unlined chimney the gas exhaust which is mostly CO2 and water vapor, a gallon an hour can cool too much before it leaves the chimney end. And you can have a cracked boiler which really puts alot of water up with the exhaust. If you don't need to add water more than once a month the boiler probably isn't cracked.0
