Is there a Glossary for newbies?

Hi. I have my lovely steam (one-pipe) heat. Love it, but it seems to be needing some adjustments. I grew up with steam, so I am not totally ignorant of the what's what. Just that I have never *needed* to do any maintenance other that blowing out the rusty water and fillin er up, so never learned more than that. Time to learn.

I am not a homeowner, but rent. Now, I am the fixer in the house, and I need to figure out what I can do vs. calling in the landlord. (Lucky sod he is that I like to do stuff.)

I love this site and all its instructional treasures. However, I don't know what part is what by a pro would call it.

So, finally, here I come to my question: Is there a parts glossary - maybe even with pictures?

Thanks ever so much!

Warm and happy with comfort steam heat in Boston area.

    I think you'd really enjoy

We Got STEAM Heat!. It has lots of pictures and easy-to-understand explanations about what's in the system, and how it all works.

    Great book!

I just received my copy and it is such a wonderful book. It made an immediate improvement in my system, and I was never aquainted with steam before.

Very easy to understand and a fun read as well!

    I'm in Massachusetts

I live in Andover, Massachusetts. I just happened upon your site through an internet search and found exactly what I was looking for in your book list. "The Wall" has been quite helpful as well.

    This might help.

    A Steam Heating Primer.

Lots of description words, but no photos. Software limitations.
