Polaris or Rinnai

Am debating whether to use a tankless (Rinnai) or Polaris tank for DHW plus radiant floor in a slab on grade low load (35k BTU) house. I plan to separate the DHW from the radiant slab with a flat plate hx if a tank is used. Which direction makes the most sense?

    I

Have had very good success with the Polaris. using it for both domestic and radiant. install a heat exchanger for the radiant side to keep your domestic water seperate.

there are advantages and disadvantages with each. Each unit also requires a little knowlege in there operation to set up to run correctly.

are you installing this yourself, or hiring a professional to install it for you. if you are hiring someone,, go with what that contractor is familiar with. you will get a better system.

there is a difference between the effeciency of the unit, and the effeciency of your system as a whole.

    The Polaris

would be less flow sensitive, and sometimes a tank style is more desireable, depending on your DHW wants needs and desires.

I'm a little nervous about the longevity issues with those micro tube, instantanous heater heat exchangers. Time will tell.

However it would cost alot less for the rinnai without the heat exchanger and extra expansion tank and feedwater system. I really like the Rinnai system. I have installed a few in some smaller homes and I have never had a call back. The polaris on the other hand I have put several in only to have to go back and change them out!!! My opinion of them is really poor.
