Don't count on a towel warmer alone to heat your bathroom though. Mad Dog

    Runtal radiators and towel warmers

I'm redoing a bathroom and want to replace the "1950's in the wall convector cabinets" with something modern looking. I have a typical one pipe series hot water loop for baseboard radiation in the bedrooms and convectors in the bathrooms on the 2nd floor. I am thinking of installing a Runtal baseboard or possible a Runtal hydronic towel warmer sized to provide correct BTUs/hr. I think I need to use monoflo tees and a control valve to connect these Runtal units in the existing hot water loop. Also, I am concerned about the surface temperature of these units since I am circulating 180 deg water or do these units have lower surface temp because of low flow rates. I don't want a safety hazard in the baths. Any suggestions on hydronic heat for the baths. I'm not interested in radiant in the floor heat. Do I stick with rust resistant slant fin baseboard.

    A big consideration

with a towel warmer is that when it has towels on it the heat output is really affected. I would be reluctant to use it as the primary heat source for the room. We have an electric Runtal towel rack in our bath and we use it to warm towels and dry clothing all year long. The main source of heat is baseboard, though.

    Runtal rocks....

when we remodeled our living, dining and MBR I took out the fin-tube and installed Runtal units in a series loop design.
The LR/DR and MBR are zoned "old-fashioned" two-stage per IBR circa 1980 (W1- circulator only W2- T-T boiler). This optimizes the surface temp. You might consider a Tekmar control to modulate the water temp. Some of the fine professionals who post here will be glad to help you, check the help section. We love our Runtal. Looks fantastic, if you like heating work like I do. This is very subjective, though. When I do the bath, I am thinking about radiant or a section of Runtal (tile floor). I personally prefer the Runtal for looks and performance. Great product, IMHO.
    Good luck with your project...

    Runtal

When I Install runtal towel warmers I usually use a zone valve and set it up on it's own stat that way I can also install a timer, so if you want to have some extra heat or hot towels when you get out of the shower or bath you just hit the timer on the way into the bath.
Also I usually oversize the towel warmer since it is on It's own stat you will not over heat the bath room.

I have one of these in the

master bath under the window. (The windows are high on the wall). The warmer is connected as another zone on the radiant floor which is on continuous circulation with VSI. (Learned how to do that here)
The warmer gets warmer as it gets colder outside since it rides with the floor. In the morning you put your hand on it, if hot, it's cold outside. This one and the panel rads I use are Veha and I got them from Windy Ridge in Tamworth NH.
