Two Pipe Air Vent System Update

I would like to start off by saying a big thank you to all the input I have received from people that post on this board, maddog, staemhead and others. I have been in the HVAC feild foe 24 years, and I learn something new all the time. I have mainly worked on commerical systems and then comes along a 356 EDR steam system that throws me for a loop. You all know how the story goes, the roofer has the leaky roof, the plumber has the leaky pipes, well I was the heating repairman with a water hammering short cycling two pipe steam system. I thought I had seen it all until this system, after posting on this board I found out thru steamhead that this was a two pipe air vent system. I purchased all of Dan's steam books also the Dead men's steam school tapes. I did a load caculation and found that the boiler is oversized but should be able to downfire to the proper load. But the beckett will need the low fire baffle plate for the lower nozzle. The harford loop was piped right at the boiler water line, I repiped it 2 inches below the waterline, the water hammer at the end of the firing cycle stopped. Also I installed flush vavles at the end of both returns and also on the return before the harford loop at the boiler. I also was attempting to operate this system on a vaporstat and had painting main and convector vents. Then it dawned on me that this is like a one pipe system, I forgot about the drop away pressure cycle of the vents. I installed a pressuretrol set at 1/2 on and 1&1/2 off, the painting vents stopped. Also there was big vents on small convectors and small vents on big convectors. I have since installed the proper vents on all the convectors. The moral of this story is there is always something new to learn. I am planning on going to wetstock and hope to meet some of you there.
