Update on 2 pipe air vent system

I have posted here on this site several times about this system. Well being in the HVAC field for 23 years, you never know everything and there is always something to learn. As the old saying goes the roofer has the leaky roof, the plumber has the leaky pipes, and I was the heating repairman with a short cycling water hammering steam system. Well this has been a real learning experience for me. After coming to this site and buying every book and tapes that Dan sells I found out what the problems were and corrected them as needed. And as Dan stated when you think you have it all figured out you don't. This system was installed in 1947. The near boiler piping was not per manf. specs I repiped and also increased the header from 3 inch to 4 inch. The harford loop was level with the water line, and I have dropped it down 2 inches below as per the specs. I was trying to run this system on a vapor stat, and had painting vents, then it dawned on me that this type of system is like a one pipe system, in that the system must cycle on a pressuretrol for the vents to operate properly, for the drop away pressure of the vents. I also found out that too big of vents can do you harm also. The water hammer has stopped also there is even heat thru out. It is still short cycling and I'm waiting on a low fire baffle plate and a F0 head to down fire the boiler to the connected load. I am planning on going to wetstock and hope to meet some of you there. I guess what I'm saying is that what a learning experience steam systems are.
