Replacing one radiator with two?

in THE MAIN WALL
I have an old leaking column type radiator on a third floor. Instead of humping up one huge one, I'd like to carry up two smaller ones and pipe them together. Can I just pipe them together on the bottem or do I need to connect them up top also. It is a hot water feed and return system. Thanks!
