ph testers

i purchased a new ph tester with digital readout
it looks like a temp tester with a @6 inch probe
any one use these
the instructions tell me to put the probe in a cup of water
with a ph of 7,to calibrate it for the first time
im not sure of 7ph ill have to read it again
is tap water 7 ph

    test fluid for calibrating. No telling what your home water is.

    Someone told me eye drops, like Visine, are ph balanced. Maybe the label indicates the ph and this could be a calibration fluid. Just a thought. Don't blame me if it's voodoo calibration :)

    Most water treatment companies should have a means to calibrate, also.

    An instrument is only as good as it's tuning frequency.

    There are pH buffer solutions available at water treatment suppliers. They come in varying pH's to calibrate your tester. Don't forget you need deionized water to rinse the instrument between buffer solutions or you may contaminate the reference solutions.
