With this cold wave in the northeast, have others found closely sized steam systems not heating the house because the owners in a panic removed the old asbestos insulation and did not re-insulate the mains? I have come across at least 3 cases of this in the past week. In the past I might have seen 1 or 2 at the most in a years time.

Insulation is needed
Yes...that happened to me. We bought our house last year in December and the homewoner had removed the asbestos from the pipes themselves. Not too smart. Anyway we made them hire an environmental cleanup company to clean it all up. We then got fibreglass insualation specially made for steam pipes and it worked wonders. The basement is no longer the hottest place in the house. However, we have other problems now, possible sludge in the radiator valves, watter hammer, and panting vents. Any ideas?
