floor warming

in THE MAIN WALL
can anyone educate me on floor warming? I have heard that you can take the total heat loss figured for radiant heating and divide in in half to achieve floor warming only? If so how do you design the system (tube lay out and gpm per loop)to get a warm floor without overheating the space.
