The Munchkin/Pinnacle

I have 15 Munchkins in an condo project. Let me say this for the money you get a condensing boiler. It is not a true condensing boiler. the fixed temp spread limits you.
(im sorry all my boilers have the analog board.) I hear that the new board is better. The boilers, are not built all that well. I have had three develop leaks on the condesate drain. (I was told that this was a mistake made in material selection during manufacture) There is no field repair possible, return unit to manufacture. I am looking at replacing all 15 boilers under warranty.
I like the vedodens from Viessmann, no problems. Also Budarus will release their wall mounted in the spring. Weil has good condesing boiler. You get what you pay for.

Quality
I'm sorry that you feel that way. There are thousands of these boilers out in the field, and most have been problem free. The condensate drain issue that you had mentioned was something that was regrettable, however it did not neccesitate the replacement of the boiler, merely the replacement of the hose and clamp.
I personally feel that this is probably not the best forum to bash someone's product. I watch the posts and have clearly seen just how knowledgable and helpful most of the folks here are. As a matter of fact, most of the questions that I have intended to answer have been answered properly before I have even had the chance. I have been equally impressed by the ability of most posters to feign away from bashing by stating that xxxx wouldn't have been their first choice.
If you have a problem with our (my) product, please call me.

Whoa dude!
This place isn't about running down someone's product. I'll agree that there are boilers of different quality on the market, but that being said, the Munchkin has proven to be priced very fairly for what you get. Nearly all of the problems I have seen with them, and any other boiler have been installation related. There are always things that get into production equipment that show up in the field. What seperates the men from the boys is how they address and take care of what happens. Heat Transfer Products stands up there with the best as far as taking care of their problems. The condensate drain issue was resolved (just a clamp and a hose) and I don't think that would require replacing the boiler.0 -
you gotta
move quickly Guy(G).
As an FYI on the trap. We pinched one of them partially from the weight of the short piece of vinyl tube we'd attached to get us to the wall-mounted P-trap (safe waste).
A simple bit of support was added to alleviate the problem. On yet another, the vinyl tube attached actually lifted the trap slightly, which made it look like the boiler was leaking (overflowed internally).
I asked Steve Wilson why the trap was made of soft rubber & he asked the head honcho (Dave) who took the time to reply personally. Seems that the hard PVC traps were occasionally seeing rough treatment in the field and a few cracked. HTP took some installer heat for that and modified the trap to a Gumby style that can take a licking and keep on ticking. Dave also indicated they will add a statement into their installation instructions to alert other installers to the need for supporting the tubing attached to this trap so that they (most of whom are smarter than me anyway) won't have to discover this the hard way.
In my book, that's the sign of a stand-up company. That's also why I like Burnham too. Jeff Alexander of Peerless stands out too as a great listener and I'd bet lots of you can recount tales of manufacturers who listen and take our suggestions to heart. Danfoss, Honeywell and Tekmar too.
Darn near everyone is listening and those who aren't will find their fannies in the flames. Legends like Dennis Bellanti(sp?) have become giants in the industry by building upon outstanding customer service.
Wait'll you see what Honeywell is cooking up. They've made some moves that will be shaking up our industry.
The hydronics industry is on the march and changes have become so commonplace it's tough to keep abreast of who's doing what.
I'm more than willing to bleed at the cutting edge so long as there's support from those who sharpened it.
