Steam Traps

I have a really old two pipe steam heating system. It the original from the house which was built in 1912. Originally the sytem ran from a coal burner which was converted to oil and then gas. I replace the burner with a new efficient gas burner about 5 years ago. Everything works perfectly except for one radiator. After reading this bored I was going to try to clean the steam trap, but cant find one anywhere on the system. Is it possible there are none?? It is loacted directly over ther burner and the riser pipe for it comes almost right off the burner.

Yes, there are valves on the radiators, but there are no air vents.

does the radiator have two or one pipe. Is there a vent on the radiator? what is the name on the boiler?

The boiler is made by Burnham. The radiators have two pipes,

a 3/4" steam pipe, and a 1/2" return. There are no airvents on the radiators, only one on a pipe right near the boiler.
  • can you post a picture

of the radiator,,especially a closeup of the inlet valve and the outlet elbow arrangement..is the inlet valve original? it would really help to see the radiator in question.

    That's Vapor

I suspect you have something like a Richardson, O-E, VECO or similar Vapor system using a hidden water seal. It may be in the return elbow or in the bushing between the elbow and the radiator. These water-seal units have little holes to let the air vent into the dry return. If the hole gets plugged, the radiator won't heat.

Take a pic of the radiator and the outlet fitting and post it here, also tell us if you've found any manufacturer's info on any of the system's components. This will help us identify your system.
