The wrong pex tubing?

I am going to pour a 7 ft. by 13 area in my basement I want to install the radiant floor heating to experiment with before I do the rest of my house. I bought 100 f roll of half-inch white pex cross - linked tubing from Lowes and fittings. Is this the right stuff? all the pictures I've seen online use red tubing. I read where it needs an oxygen barrier tube instead? There are no contractors listed within the hundred mile radius of your contractor search. Mike

Non barrier
pex can be used, IF you make sure all the piping and components are non ferrous. Copper, brass, or bronze, stainless, plastic, etc
I use non barrier on some large jobs with stainless steel boilers and bronze pumps and purgers.

color does not really....
mean a thing...you really should have a oxygen barrier unless you plan on seperating the tube w/ a heat exchanger and or use NO ferrous parts on the radiant and boiler. Tube must be marked as having an O2 barrier.(german din std4726). Insulate under your slab well. I can't believe there are not good contractors where you are. Look around, ask for references and job pictures. good luck. kpc

Would this include a galvanized pipe heat exchanger in my woodstove firebox? Mike0 -
Nope
You would be doing yourself a favor if you added a plate heat exchanger and used a bronze pump on the radiant side.
Good luck!

careful w/ wood...
heat. temps can really run away on you. maybe a storage tank and a good mixing valve would be a must. kpc

I plan on a 500 gal. storage tank and separating the domestic water heating tank with the copper coils inside the storage tank. Mike0 -
Good
but you still need to isolate the radiant from any ferrous materials.
That Pex you bought has no O2 barrier.
A plate HX with a bronze pump is the way to go here.
