Water conditioning....

which at present is not run through the water softening/conditioning system. This spring I am going to add to/modify the water condtioning system as my wife doesn't like the iron content or the smell. My question is two-fold: 1. Should the boiler be using softened/conditioned water? 2: I currently have a salt type water conditioner and will be adding/repairing an iron removal system - what are good brands or types of iron removal systems? (there are currently 2 filter type devices on the system that I have been unable to find a name on that may be a particlate/iron removal devices that simply needs to have the media replaced/flushed). Unfortunately I don't have a digital camera so I can't provide a picture. Any comments/suggestions would be appreciated.

your system is not useing any water to speak of, fussing around with the water may be determintal, in the heating system that is. Go ahead and please your wife, however do not drain and refill your heat system with the newly conditioned water. Just let it do its thing as it needs to do it. Another way is to have a sample diagnosed by a water treatment company and see what they have to say!
