    Nope

but it can be an indicator.

Have you tried filling the boiler with water to see if there is a leak above the water line?

    Look at

your neighbors chimney. If they are all smoking it is the moisture in the air...But if you are using alot of make up water and the temp. is mild and you are making white smoke that can be a bad thing,,,Good luck and hope its not leaking...Richard

    Just love

    your sense of humor, ME.

Our Pope certainly shows no signs of wanting any kind of smoke just yet.

well it was my neighbors chimney...

My wife was parking the car in front of the house and noticed our neighbors chimney had white smoke coming out of it and ours didnt. As far as we know my neighbors steam heating works OK...maybe it was the cold weather??

AS far as MY boiler goes, its A-OK, a nice job by the walls own Mad Dog!

Won't new oil/fired steam boilers run cooler than the old ones causing more condensation/water vapor to be visible? Dew point would be higher since the flue is not as warm. My chimney and flue was sized for the old boiler. Do flue liners have to be installed to stop any damage from occuring? Ed

    You're a lucky man...

and I seriously doubt that YOU have a problem. Now that you mentioned that it was cold, it dawned on me that it could be normal (DUH!)

Maybe you should refer Matt to them to make sure they're safe... That's what I'D do:-)

    Yes

Yes, and yes you need a flue liner.

    what about your hwh??

my HWH vents out the same chimney as my boiler. I understand the difference with a new boiler versus old boiler dew point arguement.

So when my old boiler was off ,my HWH still vented out the same chimney..wouldnt the HWH venting be cooler then an old boiler? What I mean is that the HWH would act like a new boiler (coolerflue venting wise) and have the same dew point problems?? Does this make any sense?

    is it oil fired

if oil doesn't ignite there is white smoke.

I noticed in the cold weather that the top cap on the chimney had a fair amount of ice around it. It it' running this cool could there be ice in the flue liner? ed
