My burnham IN7 steam heat and white rodgers thermostat 1F81-261 works fine in not extreme cold days, but it was not responded by very cold days,,I need to flip the switch on boiler once, then it fire again, any idea? Questions: any body suggest a better digital thermostat for that steam heat system? Thank you very much in advance!

need to be answered here DK. What are you switching on and off to get this to work? The 120 volt service switch to the boiler or the thermostat? Are there provisions in that thermostat to set a heat anticipator such as dials or switches? The heat anticipator for the Independence Steam boilers needs to be set at 0.8 amps for proper operation. When the boiler does not fire, does the relay click and does the vent damper open? Finally.....what is the full model number of the boiler that is printed on the sticker inside the vestibule of the boiler? This will tell me everything the boiler is equipped with. Let me know.

    Lock out

Sounds like the boiler is locking out. If power is removed the system will retry, I don't think the problem is the stat, I think it's an ignition control problem. Perhaps the low water cut off is opening because too much condensate is in the mains. A pro will be happy if you leave it locked out until they get there, easier to figure what happened.

    Burnham & the thermostat

When the boiler is off the vent damper is closed, the Burnham s/n is 64451088. The switch is on the boiler it control the 24VAC transformer, I don't think there is a heat anticpator in the white rodgers 1F80-261, I think this thermostat is also power up(with AA battries back up) by the transformer, I try to recall someone mentioned that power stealing could mass up things? And other things I observed that when the pressure went high that pressuretrol shut off the boiler and closed the vent damper, then pressure drop back down the vent damper turn open and fire again, so I think the vent switch is working. but, the system got lock out so often in the low temp if below 15F outside.
