Price of glycol

Could I get some feedback on the purchase price of glycol and the quanity needed to get that price. Is this from a local supplier or off the internet. We are thinking of making this available to our hydronic cleaner users and hydronic treatment users. We could then offer a full package to these clients.

Depends on brand and supplier. I just went through this to get a small quantity (15 gallons) and found the most common size to carry was 55 gallon drums. The Dowfrost HD went for 550 Fob, and the competition slightly lower. I was unable to get Dowfrost HD in 5 gallon buckets for a reasonable cost, so I went with Noble Noburst 100. It was 70 a pail, or about 300 a drum. YMMV.

    Its cheap

when compared to a frozen heating system. But its not for every heating system. You need backflow protection with glycol to keep from brushing your teeth with it.(great in coffee) Some boilers with rubber bushing between the sections will fail with glycol. Glycol can be hard on pumps and will leak at joints that with plain water were tight. A glycol system needs to be tested each year just like antifreeze in your car. Best Wishes J.Lockard

I've only run glycol in closed loop systems. No chance of mixing there.

    antifreeze

Just had a cross contamination thru a sidearm waterheater, must have been a leaking coil. I would not have thought that it would go to the high pressure side.

    physics wins

Hot goes to cold. Pressure's not the only player. Some areas require double wall exchangers when glycol is deployed. At least with propylene it's low tox. Enjoy.....Dan

    Backflow preventer

All boiler systems require a backflow preventer to isolate their water from the domestic water supply whether or not they have glycol or other additives in them.

    Buckets or Barrels

buckets runs $5-$7 per gallon. Expect a 15 % reduction for 55 gallon drums.

    glycoled systems shouldn't be

connected to a fill system. Use an Eatherton "pig" or an Axiom www.axiom.com filler. Dilluted glycol from fresh water make up is not going to do you much good for freeze protection or your glycols inhibitor package.

All systems burp air ocassionally and the feed water will cause you problems.

Which boilers have rubber between sections? Please don't say Weil McLain WGO's.
