    Been there, done that

You might be able to find someone to braze the crack. I've seen it tried (unsuccessfully). Do some searching here and you'll find possible ways to braze but there are certainly no guarantees.

Tried to replace a single section of a cast iron HX as well...

Things had moved/distorted a bit over the years and the new section would not mate with the old. My advice would be to replace the entire HX or get a new boiler.

    Liability

is the main reason not to attempt this. Are you willing to accept responsibility for the repair? If something major happens and the manufacture finds a repair job like this, they wil wash their hands of the situation, and it will be your problem. Chances are the crack was caused by a hot spot where there was no water in the section, IE mineral build up, etc. If you tried to repair it, it would probably crack again in a short amount of time. Try to find out what caused the crack, and then decide on changing sections or the whole boiler.
