Forget the flowers

My friend Matt Michel (Comanche Marketing/Service Roundtable) sent this out to his subscribers last week:

I hate Valentine’s Day. Every year I forget about it and then have to scramble and get flowers at the last minute. When you wait, you pay. You know what I mean. By 5:00 p.m., all of the good flowers have been picked over at the graveyard, forcing me to search out a flori$t or one of those guys who washes windows and sells ro$e$ by the side of the road.

I’m going to do the men reading this a favor. This year, I’ve got a great way for you to take care of Valentine’s Day and also help a friend of mine. John Hall, who writes for one of the trade magazines, has published a book. It’s not a technical book. There are no wrenches involved. As tempting as it might be to purchase a copy of “Everything You’ve Always Wanted to Know About Enthalpy, But Were Afraid to Ask” for your loved one, it’s not a good idea. It’s sort of like buying your spouse a good circular saw. “Circular saws say ‘I love you’” works for me, but my bride takes a different view (Of course, if you’re a woman and reading this, a circular saw, Dremel, or other gadget is a great gift!).

Anyway, John wrote a book called “Angels Working Overtime.” It’s a GREAT Valentine’s gift and costs less much less than ro$e$. You can order a copy at www.angelsworkingovertime.com. It’s a good book, though there are not enough tools. In fact, I don’t remember any tools. The lack of tools aside, I did enjoy the story. The work is pure fiction, but the writing is real. The story is written first person and I kept thinking of what I would do in a similar situation. The story pulled me in.

The book is a great present for Valentine’s Day. It would also be a good gift for confirmation or an adult Baptism. Plus, John will sign the book if you order from him (his email’s on his website).

In the interest of full disclosure, John Hall did not ask me to write this and I get nothing from writing it. After all, who would ask for this type of review or be willing to pay for something like this? No one. John’s probably going to groan when he reads this and wonder what he did to deserve it. Of course he’ll get over it if enough of you buy his book, so please help me dig myself out of the hole I’m in and buy a copy or two or three.
