small american standard boiler-62 degrees this AM

I just bought a 1200 sqft bungalow with forced hot water heat. The house was pretty cold this morning.

The American Standard boiler is off more than it was on. The Gauge on the boiler says 25psi and less than 180degrees.

My question is there is a toggle switch on the box with wires leading to the gas control. The switch is labeled HI and LO. It is in the LO position. Can I switch it to HI for a little more heat? Or is the switch some hilly billys idea of an on/off switch of some sort?

    cold

I added a small fan in front of the iron radiator in the living room and the therm on the thermostat is already up ~8 degrees in only a couple hours. The boiler burner is still cycling like normal.

I might turn up the boiler aquastat...

from 160 to 180-185F do you also get your hot water from this boiler via a tankless heater? kpc

No hot water, this is a heat boiler only. You think turning the heat up will help? The radiators are VERY hot (I dont know the exact temp).

The only gauge I have is the one on the boiler...

Any Idea what that HI/LO switch is? I can probably post pics if it would help...

  • Kick the switch to hi

it will allow the boiler to cycle at 200 degrees instead of 180 degrees. It will not hurt anything, just make sure that when the thermostat is calling that the burner shuts off when the gauge reads 200 degrees.

There is no other adjustment for temperature on those boilers just HI 200 and Low 180.

I switched it to HI and turned the ceiling fan on low in the living room and it hasnt gone below 72 since :)

We'll see if it cools was down again in the next couple weeks.

    Thanks!
