Boiler runs for a longer time than needed?

My thermostat is set at 62 and the boiler comes on at that temp. But, it runs until it reaches 70 before it shuts off. Is there a way to have it come on more frequently, but run for a shorter period?

You need someone to look at it. Its not set up right? Your thermostat is not reading right? Somethings wrong, but toooooo many possible problems to know.

Thanks for the response. I need a lot of tweaking on this system!

    could be...

... a bad/out of calibration theromstat, out of level thermostat (mercury type), mis-set or burned out (latter = bad thermostat) heat anticipator on the thermostat, or perhaps a sticking relay or control on the boiler, possibly something else. Probably something simple, but get it checked out.

would the pressuretrol have anything to do with it? it's been set improperly at cut-in=2 and diff=1. I understand that could lead to a waste of fuel (such as longer running time?). (funny that the only people that have worked on the boiler are from the fuel oil company!)
