2 Zones for Steam Heat
RH
Member Posts: 2
I have a 1940's cape with an expanded second floor. The heat works OK on floor 1 but usually shuts off before I can get the 2nd floor realy warm. Also, at night I only need to heat the 2nd floor where the bedrooms are and do not want to run the boiler at 75 degrees to drive heat upstairs. Can I put a second zone in for the second floor?

upstairs
Rather than zoning, you might try bigger vents on the bedroom radiators (I assume you have a one-pipe steam system). That may equalize the heating between floors, and for just the rooms you want to heat.0 -

if the steam pipes in the basement are not insulated, steam will condense there rather than go to those upstairs radiators. If the basement is really warm, that's your problem.
