Short cycling of boiler

Our Boiler cycles on and off 60 to 80 times per hour in mild weather. Will increasing the system volume have any affect on this? Is there a minimum water volume or rule of thumb for hydronic systems? It does not have modulating control or a multistage burner.

    Need to determine why

Withbthat e-mail address you should be able to get a heat loss calc sheet :)

First determine the load of the building, then see how closely the boiler output is matched to it.

Multi zoned, micro loaded systems can present short cycling on mild days, especially so if the equipment is grossly oversized.

Get us some more info to come up with ideas.

    Driving tacks with sledge hammers...

I promised my partner I'd come up with a new saying. We've kinda worn this one out:-)

Even with modulation, if the system is grossly oversized you can expect short psycling. Size to the "real" load, as proven with historic fuel consumption. Then go with modulation of flow as well as heat.

How about "Driving a Volkswagen with a 427 cubic inch engine..." Two position. ON or off.

Any other suggestions for sayings to describe this??

If its single zone or just a few

I'd check the themostat anticipator settings. See this problem all the time
