If Money were not an object,
I'm trying to design a system unlike any i've done before. Could Vie$$mann be in my future?
Heating plant replacement in a High profile location in downtown Boston. The asked for "the best."
Which Mfgr. provides "the best" piece of equipment and customer service? Green customers. I'm looking at two 200,000 BTU staged boilers w/100Gal of indirect DHW. All high mass C.I. Radiators on all of the 6 floors of condos above w/ TRVs on each Rad.
I really hate to have to chose another manufacturer other than the one I've been loyal to. However, in this situation I believe this beond the capabilities of my brand of choice.
Has anybody ever sleeved an 80 foot chimney?
Gary

Why not ?
One modulating low mass boiler ? The Ultra is available up to 310K input now. I think HTP has one comparable. Patterson-Kelley also has a modulating commercial unit.
I'm a low mass modulating fan, if you couldn't tell.

Depends on how you define
"the best"

$$
The most expensive is always the best ;-)
Reading Harry Beckwith taught me that......
Seriously, if you want "the best" you want a Viessmann.
I'm unsure if it's available yet, but Viessmann has a cascading control for multiple Vitodens applications. (up to 4)
80 foot chimney will be an issue with vent length for a Vitodens.0 -
yes
We did a job downtown Boston 2yrs ago across from the wang center. 285Tremont st. Installed two Viessmann Vertamats 1.7mil each. Lined the chimney for one boiler and ran one stack up the side of the building around the back,Approx 85ft.
These are truly the finest boilers I have ever work on.
Feel free to e-mail me if you want or if you are in the area
stop in to take a look.

Have a good braking system
Gravity works, and going down the chimney is not going to be a problem. We did an 80' liner about two years ago for a generator exhaust. It was a 5" "Elmers Pipe" all stainless and very heavy. It went down really well, but because it was a vent it needed to come out the thimble, and we missed it by about 3'. So what took two guys to drop in, took six of us to pull back up that little bit.0 -
