Very Hot Radiator

LEAD PIPE

In my home I had a new cast iron radiator installed in the second floor bath. This radiator get very hot compared to the others. The bathroom reaches temperatures into the 80's. Is there a way to tone this radiator down. My home is only set up for basically one zone. Thanks

Sounds like the new rad is either oversized or installed in such a way that it is receiving too much circulation essentially "robbing" from the rest.

Hopefully you have a hand valve on the radiator? Turn it down--WAY down--almost off. Try to get it too cold and then turn up a TAD...

    That assumes a WATER system

If steam, the valves must be either fully open or fully closed.

    Not necessarily

On 1 pipe steam the valve needs to be fully opened or fully closed. On 2 pipe steam you can regulate using the valve.

On 1 pipe steam the valve must be fully opened or fully closed. On 2 pipe steam you can throttle the valve to regulate the amount of steam entering the radiator.

    One zone?

We need to know what one zone means and as the others said if Hot water or steam. If hot water is this a series loop system? If you shut the offending bath rad completely down the whole or half of the house shut down too or only the bath rad. If only the bath rad have a thermostatic radiator valve installed on the inlet, same answer if 2 pipe steam. If one pipe steam buy a thermostatic vent. Read what you can on the left page of this site under the what you wanted to know section.

    if 1 pipe

If it is 1 pipe steam, how fast a radiator heats can be controlled by using an adjustable or different size air vent (the orifice in it) from numerically smaller (slower) to alphabetically larger (faster).
