I am still having problems with hissing radiator vents, I have replaced my main vent with a gorton #2 and ordered a second,(back ordered) and some smaller vents for my upstairs. I currently have dole adjustable vents on my downstairs radiators. should I replace them with adjustable vents again??? are the fixed vents better in any way???

I would stick with Gorton vents. They have a website and you can also call Ken Kunz at (908) 276-1323. He can tell you which letter or number should go on which radiator and your local plumbing/heating supply place should carry the Gorton vents.0 -
hissing air or steam?
You did not say if they are hissing air or steam. Hissing air is normal (maybe even intermittantly after they get hot), but they should not release steam.
What are the settings on your pressuretrol?0 -
no one carries gortons in my area, but I can order them direct. I hope I get my order soon I ordered a #2 main vent and vents for my upstairs radiators before X-mas but the # 2 is on back order. the vents are hissing air but are making way too much noise. they did not make all this noise before I replaced my boiler.0 -
Dave,
I remember when you first posted your problem. Went to the old thread http://forums.invision.net/Thread.cfm?CFApp=2&&Message_ID=67299&_#Message67299
and was looking through it. Did you ever get your pressuretrol turned down? Your old post showed it at 5psi. Which is way to high. That could be the key if you didnt get that done. Good Luck

I took care of the pressuretrol a while back, I'm thinking with the new boiler install and the pressure being high initially my vents might be gunked up, so replacement is my next step.0 -
leak hissing
I have a radiator with a crack in it. Steam leaks out. Can this radiator last the rest of the winter or should it be replaced with a new one right away. Also, my radiators hiss alot but they are just releasing air out of the valves this is normal right. They just seem to be loud. My plumber turned on the radiators fully recently, he said alot of them were only on part way. Do you think this is why we have more hissing. Where is a good place to purchase a new radiator? I live in Ware, MA. Should I have my plumber purchase it for me or can I get it myself?0 -
leak hissing
Becky:
I'm not an expert, but if you have a cracked radiator you should have it replaced. You may want to call a local plumbing/heating supply distributor. Count the number of sections before you get it. Some plumbers/heating people mark up the price of the radiator. You should get some hissing from the vents. Make sure they are properly on the radiator. If you have Gortons (which I highly recommend), the little stem part should be sticking straight up.0
