Small radiant off steam boiler

OK guys-Here's a question for ya- I want to add a small zone of radiant off of the bottom of a steam boiler. So- do I create a primary loop with a 3-way mix and a zoning circ. for the rad. loops. Or should I use a powered 4-way mixing valve for my radiant loops? Will the acidity and or dirt from the steam system adversally affect one more than the other? I've done it for a high temp. zone just not sure if it is wise when I'm introducing the complexity of a mixing device? Come on brain trust-I know you have done this?

    As a matter of fact.....

I apologize for not knowing the author of this. It was posted here on the wall some time back. I think it was the honorable Dan Holohan. This would be for High temp.

Mixing and a reset control is always a plus when using rads or baseboard and constant flow. Hard to define without more info.

    hope this helps.

    180deg. is a little warm

for radiant. So what is the best way to now mix down the temp. of the water after you have connected to the steam boiler in this fashion?

    If your doing...

radiant I would recommend that you use a heat exchanger of some type. All the crud that could get clogged in the radiant tubing and components. I personally like the weil-Mc. pool heater type they offer big passages for water and stuff to flow .After tha a good 3 way mixer(sparco or taco 5000) will be great.A 4 way or injection would be nice but for a small job would be a bit over the top. kpc

    heat exchanger

i think you may have problems down the road if you use the condensate for your radiant tubing mainly because of the rust and dirt you will be pumping thru the tubing. may be better to use a seperate heat exchanger to do this.set the acqustat on the tank to the temp you need for your radiant.this will save mixing valves.

    good luck joeg.
