Big pancake steamer

with the cloverleaf insignia . This was the biggest pancake boiler I've ever come across . It was still holding water , as well as the returns . The homeowner just bought the house in October and wanted to start fresh - new boiler and all new returns . The other pics are the return pipes - both were almost clogged solid with spooge .

Next to the steamer was a Buderus boiler for the kitchen and den heat . Never saw that type of boiler and noone knows what brand burner is in it .

  • We installed a Peerless

ECT 5 . We had to be a little creative with the header to keep some room for the fluepipe , but it worked out OK .

There were 5 of us , so we got the system up and running in one day . We also replaced about 80 feet of return pipe and teed in 4 returns around the basement . One pic shows where we had to add a main vent - there was no room to go anywhere else . The last pic is a perspective shot of Phil and the old beast - still in the basement .

    Nice

    clean work as usual Ron.

The burner in the Buderus is it possibly a Buderus Burner? I saw them in Germany but i thought they were only blue flame and not exported to the U.S.

I know you guys love them Riello's down there so I'm surprised to hear its not that.

    Regards,

    Robert

    Nice job as usual

and there's nothing wrong with installing a main vent that way. With the Peerless boiler's lower water line, you should have more than enough "A" dimension.

But that looks like a small main vent- is it a short main?

    Hey Ron,

Those low returns weren't called "mud legs" for any particular reason were they? Nice job , as usual, but I think your gonna get spoiled in all these stand up basements we been seeing pictures of lately.

Hope to have some pics of a closet I had to do a job in soon. Still waiting for the LP tank to be installed. Chris
  • The main vent

was well over 3 feet above the water line , so it should do fine . I think they were Hoffman 4A vants . This main was about 30 feet of 2 inch pipe . We didn't know about adding the main vent and I was lucky I even had 2 of em on the truck - we also had to replace another main vent that was spewing steam , as well as 4 radiator vents and repack a leaky steam valve . The new homeowner wasn't moved in yet and never ran the steam boiler . Thank you Steamhead .

We installed a Buderus piggy back , and a few stand alone boilers , but I never saw this model - its called a Logana I think . We didn't see a brand name on the burner though . I'm also not sure if it was a blue flame because it was out on reset when we got there . We do install Riello almost exclusively - this home was a fairly new account and we inherited this curious burner . Thanks Robert .

    I hope thats

    not someones nite call.
  • Schmootz legs

The funny thing was that the return pipes themselves were pretty clean when we ripped them out . The only major blockage was where the return pipes met the boiler .

Hey Chris , you ever see that type of burner before on the Buderus ? I have a pic in the response to Robert .

Thanks for the compliment . Youre right , I'm feeling a little spoiled working in wide open basements . But watch - I'll be under the stairs tomorrow . I can't wait to see the pics of the closet jon you are going to do .

If youre feeling frisky , theres an open invitation to build up some boilers for HVAC students out here , even Dan is gonna be swinging and sweating some pipes . I think it's this Saturday , I'll have to ask in a new post .
  • Weird looking , huh ?

I think it was put in for tomorrow morning , I hope it was .
