convert 1 pipe steam radiator to 2 pipe hot water using a valve

I am looking for a device that will allow me to convert a one pipe steam radiator to a two pipe hot water system. I am told we can remove the existing hand valve and install a device that lets us connect hot water supply and return lines to it. Anyone know about this?

  • perhaps....

If the radiators aren't connected across the top, you'll never get the air out.

If they are, and you can get an air vent valve into the top of the radiator....

Use a close nipple and a full size (1.25 or 1.5 inch) by 3/4" reducing tee in the radiator; . Put a double tapped bushing (by 3/4" inside and outside) into the tee.

This allows you to fit a dip tube to the inside of the double tapped bushing (of 3/4" copper and a 3/4" CxM adapter) that is about an inch short of hitting the far end of the radiator, inside.

Now you have two 3/4" connections at the same end which serve opposite ends of the radiator.

You would have to relocate an air vent to the top of the radiator. Hey I thought 1 pipe steam was the greatest thing going.
