oil tank issues

I plan to place an outdoor tank near my shed. The distance is 100' from the boiler locaton which is in the basement say 10' below tank elevation.
PREVIOUS RESPONSE FROM THE WALL
If the tank is close to ten feet (or more) above the height of the burner you must use an OSV or PRV at the burner to protect the pump seals.
QUESTIONS
If you would not mind additional comment, would it be ok to place OSV at tank outside to provide better protection against line breakage? How does this device protect seals? Also you mention a PRV. Any specific model? Will just an OSV do the job? thanks, Todd

    osv

so then, it would be best to put it inside the basement as the first device after the pipe passes thru the wall? Is another device a better choice than an OSV?

At what temperature does heating oil solidify?

Wouldn't you need to heat the oil line with tape or bury it to keep the oil from from gelling in really cold weather? I've heard this is a problem with diesel-fueled vehicles. A leak from a buried line could affect nearby well water and result in damages excluded by homeowner's insurance policies. Heating tape might not hold up very well outdoors.

Not sure what the temp is..

But I used to live in a house in Michigan with oil heat and even up to -15F the fuel oil never jelled. Someone else probably has exact answer on this site - or maybe contact your fuel oil supplier.

    oil tank

the max run on a sunstrand pump is 100 ft with 0 ft of lift using 1/2 copper how do you propose getting to the burner i hope it will be thru conduit buried below the frost line in boston area thats 4 ft or so i hope you will burn kerosene rather than no2 fuel oil less chance of gelling

    outside oil tank

I live in VA. I have burried copper 5/8 od 90' feet from house to shed area. Copper is type L sleved in black ABS coil stock. The idea was not to have an ugly oil tank next to my house. Our building code is CABO. I see that I need to read the code to see what safety devices are required by code here.
I want the ultimate in safety even if it exceeds CABO.

In this forum a year ago, it was suggested that an OSV was necessary to protect pump seals? maybe so, or not? The Beckett burner has a solinoid to shut the oil off already. That is why I was considering an OSV. Would you suggest other devices for safety in this install? I bought a LWCO already. Using burnham V8.

    outside tank

it would be easier to put tank near the house and build a shed to cover it according to the suntec manual 5/8 is good for up to 100 ft of run at 23 gph firing rate
