Lost a friend today

Al Letellier
Al Letellier Member Posts: 781
I, and the industry, lost a good friend today. Eric Whitten worked for several suppliers, over the years, here in Portland. He lost his battle with ALS today and will be sadly missed. He and I have literally done hundreds of systems together over the years, and he didn't get to see the last one he heat lost and designed with me, a 13 zone, all radiant system with Viessmann boiler and mixing valves.
Would appreciate it if those of you who are so inclined, would remember Eric's family in your prayers. His brother lives directly across the street from me and has a 50/50 chance of getting ALS (hereditary), so they all can use some prayer and support.
God bless you guys!!

    Close friends

are like diamonds. They are hard to find and painful to lose. But, I do like Dan's idea of tell us a good story of your friend. One that brings a smile to your face. It will give some relief, if only for a little while....

    losing a good friend

Thanks to all of you for your thoughts and prayers. I will pass this along to his wife.
Eric was more than just a guy who did heat losses and systme design. He always had a smile and a quick wit and seemed to always find the time to work in that special project. He always came to me when he had a special problem and we spent many times working out better ways to do things. I've known him for the better part of 20 years and followed him around the various supply houses as he tried to find "his niche". He even left the industry for a while, but eventually came back to it. I helped him get his last job by letting him know of the opening and pushing him to apply, and we had many good times together.
Our last project was a custom log cabin with a 13 zone radiant system, mostly Quik Trac, and a Viessmanm boiler. He never got to see the finished product, but the owner's have agreed to let up put a small plaque on the control board dedicating the system to his memory. He would have loved to see it completed........Our part of the country is a little warmer and a lot more efficient because of his work.
And he was simply a great guy!!!!!!!
