Steam radiator repairs

I've got a radiator in a small bathroom with 15 sections to it,and it has developed a leak at two of the joints in the middle. Epoxy putty does nothing to slow down the steam and the condensate has run over the floor a few times. I know that the radiator can be taken apart but have never done it before. What is the best way to take out the bad sections to shorten it and what problems can I run into. The two or three sections will not affect heating the room as the radiator is to big for it anyway!

    Rad Disassembly

Provided there are threaded rods running across...

After you remove the rods of course...

Wedges cut from a strong, hard wood like oak (grain running lengthwise). I find it easiest to lay the radiator down on its face and use a wedge top and bottom alternating pounding until it just pops apart.

I've seen an old-timer use nothing but the handle of a 36" wrench and a quick jerk. Tried it myself but only succeeded in jerking my shoulder ;)

do yourself a favor and simply replace it. it is the smallest and least costly radiator in the system. unless you got a whole lot of time to probably waste. it might also be oversized. re-check for sq. ft. of steam.

Rather doubt it. Am heading to the UK in late March and will come back with taxes and credit card bills to pay!

Need to get a bottle trap, some special rad bleed valves, hopefully a supply of flappers for the crazy European toilet in my master bath, and add to my collection of discontinued Denby stoneware. Might even have some time for sightseeing!
