B-Pex or Pex-A what's the difference?

Can anyone explain the difference between B-Pex and A-Pex? I know it is not an O2 barrier as I've seen both with O2 barrier.

Thanks

    You forgot C-PEX

All three are different ways the PE is crosslinked. The A has the highest % of crosslinking then C and then B. That is why the A is the most $$ then C then B.

  • And if you want

    more detailed information:

PEX A - Engel method: a hot process that takes place during the extrusion process; cross-linking occurs in the carbon atoms (Rehau, Wirsbo, Mr. PEX)

PEX B - Silane method; a cold process; a special pre-mixed polyethylene based resin is extruded into HDPEtubing. In a second process , the tubing is placed in a sauna to complete the cross-linking process with heat and moisture. This process also produces a less consistent level of cross-linking, with more complicated bonds across the tubing's molecular chain; cross-linking occurs across silicone and oxygen molecules, i.e. weaker (Infloor, Thermalease, Heatway)

PEX C - Irradiation method; a cold process; cross-linking occurs in the carbon atoms (Roth, Stadler-Viega, HeatLink)

    You forgot Heatlink has PEX-A

they make their own PEX-A now in Canada and it is a little more flexable then the others. It also cost less, I would say about $0.06 to $0.10 per/ft on 1/2" for both non O2 and w/ O2. Check it out!
