Replacement Steam Boiler

We recently replaced an 1.8 millon BTU boiler in a church.
The system was originally coal fired but the boiler we replaced was gas fired.
The new boiler has had repeated problems w/ the MM Pump Controller & LWCO.
We also had to replace the Boiler Feed Pump/Tank. Since then the pump controller has three times stuck in the calling for feed position & filled the system (at least partially with water).
Anytime the Pump Controlller or LWCO is blown down in runs black then rust colored when the valve is first opened but clears up fairly soon. - Any Ideas?

    Was there any

water treatment done after the replacement? Was the system cleaned out and then water treatment added? If so what and was the initial flush after cleaning allowed to run until clear?

We could probably help you, but we need some more answers to questions. Give us a call at 800-543-5975
  • Sounds like a thorough

drain, flush, & skim is in order.

You didn't mention the pump controller #, but is it probably a 150. If it is the 150S w/ snap-action switches, see if your supplier has a plain old 150 w/ (hold your breath) mercury switches. Much more reliable, not as susceptible to sticking, & won't bounce on & off as quickly as the S model on a boiler w/ a rocking water line.

Or, try the 150E probe type w/ the integral time delay & other goodies. Good luck.

    MM 150 LWCO/pump control

If you have the non-mercury type of LWCO, you need to put an isolation relay between it and the boiler feed pump.

With enough of a draw, the contacts will stay closed causing the pump to run continuously.

    Just a thought.
