    cracks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like a dry fire, I am really urging you to have a professional look at this, major problems if a hole in the section is that big.

you need a new boiler. if it dry-fired and you try to repair it you may be wasting your cash. fix it once and get it over with. only patch if you are destitute.

    Yea

I hear you ...I was trying to do a patch till block gets here..It will be ordered on Mon....My Co.will be installing it..Right now the customer has electric heat but just wanted to have more heat if needed,,,Never had to hole in a steamboiler like that before...All good advice as usual from the wall... THANKS for your replies and concern!!! Richard

If this is configured as a steam boiler, I would strongly suspect that one of the water level controls is not working the way it was intended to and that this boiler was dry-fired. Before completing this changeout, I would take a real close look at the low water cutoff or pump controller. This boiler should also be installed with an auxilliary Manual Reset LWCO per CSD-1 Code to guard against things like this. I'd like to satisfy my own curiousity by knowing what level control devices were on this boiler. Let me know that information if you don't mind. Thanks.
