Types of PEX you use. (PR)

(Constructive question.) I have been a Wirsbo distributor forever and a day. Very happy selling a quality product. I am not looking to jump ship, but want to better understand my contractors thinking.

How "Faithful" (for lack of a better word) are you to a product line or manufacturer. At Wetstock III, I heard Mr.Pollets speaking of integrity, and he dovetailed his view to include the line of PEX he uses.

Will you only use PEX A? B? C? Is this only a commodity item to you? Is it packaged with jobs from your vendor so that you use what they prescribe?

Is is more simple than this? More complicated? I am just gathering information for some training I do. Thanks in advance.

Regards,

PR

    Well it depends...

when it come to heat(baseboard or radiant) I am exclusive to Wirsbo(pexA-Engel)...if it is for domestic/potable water I 95% of the time use Vanguard(pexB-silan)..I like the red and Blue w/ their manablock system better than anything that Wirsbo has sent down the line. kpc

    Wirsbo....

#1 because I try to always use the best quality product available that has (#2) the best wholesalers to back them up.....
Have had great results with the hepex AND the aquapex....
I like the idea that I don't have any crimprings with the aquapex that can corrode away...so far I have been really pleased with the Wirsbo products.....
Now if we could just clear up some of the back order problems.....

I'm to go to Apple Valley in a week, they will sure hear about it from me then!

    Pex?

Except for some quickee fixes on domestic water to replace a piece of QEST polybutylene with a piece of QESTpex, it's nothing but Wirsbo. In order to feel comfortable guaranteeing my work, I need to use the best material I can put into a job. Have used Aquapex with Manablocs with good results, but most of the time I solder up my own manifolds.

    We use

Wirsbo for ALL plumbing and 90% of heating. For the remaining 10% we use Stadler. We would use Wirsbo all the time, but we sometimes get leads from a supply house that only stocks Stadler. Both are very good products, just like working with Wirsbo a little better and their customer support is top notch. We also have a large investment in tools and material stock.

    Hard to be

brand specfic in my area. Suppliers only carry a few thousand feet, if you're lucky. I have jobs with two, and sometimes three, brands installed!

Watts Radiant, Wirsbo, RTI and Vanguard are most common in my installs. I favor PAP, these days, and have some Kitec jobs going as well as Aqua-Therm brand PAP.

I have noticed a backorder problem also, with some brands :)

If the lead starts at a specfic manufacture, I think it's fair to stick with their products.

I get concerned when I see a lot of a specfic brand of heating pex going directly to DIY and end users, from local distribution and reps. After I spent time and money to train, certify, and join the club for that brand!

    Pex preference

Engel pex only. Wirsbo or Rehau. 75% Wirsbo 25% Rehau. Wirsbo's Aquasafe is the best idea in cold potable water/fireprotection to come down the pike. I like the Aquacenter manifold for none Aquasafe pottable water applications. Both companies factory people are excellent to deal with. Only Wirsbo has THE BARBA!!!!!

    Stadler

I have a supplier who works very closey with us on our heating work. We have gotten very good company support and give them our loyalty.

Great product, well made, with good R+D.

    Rehau and Wirsbo

For heating I use both products, but almost exclusively the Rehau manifolds (unless we are doing Quik Trac). We used Aquapex for years but finally got tired of all the leaks (and having to carry a heat gun around to fix them) so we switched to Rehau a couple of years ago. In my opinion, a far superior fitting system. Put it together and immdiately put 100 psi to it.

    in my

neck of the woods, we can get just about every type of pex made, (even a brand from italy!). my favourite for heating is Bow, Flexnet infinity, i find that even in cold weather, it "lays" better then any other brand of pex. and Bow has just introduced a 3 layer pex for potable, it has better chlorine, ultra violet and scuff resistance. i use to use vanguard almost exclusively, they had the flexnet resin also, but lately, it seems that they have been getting their tubing from plasco, and i always found plasco to rigid and tight.

I've used it all, but for the past few years

just wirsBRO - as I call it. They are the biggest, best name recognition (what a lot of ho's request), and have great support. Mad Dog

    Using two brands right now

Wirsbo and Rauhau. I've been using alot of 3/8 and the Rauhau is about a third cheaper than Wirsbo and much easier to get. In other sizes they are about the same. I really don't understand the price difference. Still using the Wirsbo propex system, however prefab copper manifolds are not available from Wirsbo, so I am looking. Also have heard the other pex-A, Mr. Pex, is really nice to work with and may be taking a look at it. May be looking at pex-al pex for slabs, probably again Wirbo or Rauhau.
